Hello,

hopefully you will get this message and reply back. I currently run a nonprofit (religous) and I am in post grad school considering a dissertation on IT and Nonprofits. Would you be willing to dialogue with me throughout the course of my studies so that I may gain knowledge from your perspective? In particular how IT is lacking in small nonprofits and resources are not enough to go around. I am interested in hearing from you. I am locking in your URL to my annotated bibliography in hopes of hearing from you. Thanks Nice set of twins you have there.

I plan to work (unpaid) very soon at a non-profit to help my community. I would rather eat beans every day & live in peace than to work in the corporate world with all of its huge egos another day. The IT at my previous job tapped my home computer. This has all been very strange & I cannot believe one IT person could ruin another person (and family's) life. The IT before the last one quit & went to work as a missionary in an inner-city non-profit mission. Think he knew the people we were working for & he could take it no longer. He could not be happier now. He was a nice IT who everyone missed once he left. No one trusted the new one. He abused his position.

Sorry your experience in the non-profit world was hard. For me - it is great - only there is never any $$. There is a lot of politics involved so far as ever getting a local grant. It's not fair - but life is not fair. I try to just thank God for each day of life & try to help others.

Found your site while looking for IT jobs for my son - a laid off IT person.

Enjoy your twins. They are precious. Your family is the most important thing - never a job.

Most smaller organisations do not need a system as complex as RE. Its potentially easier to start out with a home written database written in access (provided it is storing the correct data) and then look at upgrading to RE or some other system later on. I have personally written two fundraising database systems in Access, while "on the job" and the current one does automatic thank you letter generation (and email generation) and rotates the letter texts so donors don't get the same one twice. Its also fully relational with relationships settable between donors/campaigns, donor to donor etc.

It took me about a week to do the programming and its all properly annotated so if I leave anyone can use it or reprogram it.
